USB Certified 2.0 active extension cable is a bus powered extension cable that can be used to increase the length of a device cable without the worry of signal loss and potential performance problems. USB limits a cable's length to 16ft. any length above 16 feet requires the use of an active cable such as this one. This cable has a signal booster built in. The overall cable length can be extended up to 80ft by daisy chaining up to 5 of these active cables. The cable must be plugged directly into a USB port (either on the PC or a hub). Use a standard 6' 10' or 15' USB cable to reach the desired distance.

It works fine, no noise is generated into the pictures and no loss of signal back and forth as far as I can see. Mine is black, not the clear as pictured. I use this cable to connect my camera to my computer from across the room. Nice and sturdy, like most Tripp Lite products.

It works well, except the two cables tend to pull apart and I had to tape them together (yeah, duct tape). It seems like a waste of power, albeit a minor one. I've been using this cable plus a standard 10 foot USB cable to connect a printer to my laptop. I was surprised by the red status light on the female end of the cable, since it not mentioned in the product description or technical details.

The only negative comment I have is that clear cable looks tacky. I feel I avoided a hassle.The cable and hard drive have been working for over a month. But it works great and I'd buy it again. I needed to run a portable hard drive from 16 feet away, which is the upper limit for USB. I read quite a few reviews and decided to buy this cable rather than trying a cheaper one. something you could make in your garage.
